We strongly recommend that if you haven’t completed a level 1 course with the HG Coffee School you do this first. In our level 2 course we do not teach the fundamentals which are taught in the level 1 course. The level 1 course is a great opportunity for active baristas to plug the holes in their knowledge and correct bad habits which you may not be aware of. If you’re confident of your fundamental knowledge of: Grinder operation, dosing, tamping, milk texturing and pouring, give us a call and we can discuss a free 15 min assessment prior to you booking in.
We have a variety of new industry relevant machines and grinders and electronic tampers that students work on. Models include La Marzocco, Nuova Simonelli, San Remo, Mazzer and Mahlkonig. We encourage our students to rotate across the different makes and models of machines and grinders. This familiarisation sets our students up well to confidently work in any cafe they may find themselves in.
No we have no age limits, but we do need that you be comfortable holding a jug of hot milk (65’c) and are tall enough to reach over a standard kitchen bench. I often tell people if you’re competent enough to make a cup of tea at home, you’ll have no trouble with coffee.
The Barista Level 2 course is an advanced training program designed to build upon the foundational skills learned in Level 1. It focuses on repetition, refining techniques, introducing more advanced processes and developing speed and efficiency.
The course includes an additional six hours of training beyond Level 1, with a strong emphasis on hands on practice and advanced techniques.
Students will master more complex coffee preparation methods, improve their latte art skills, learn how to dial in advanced coffee recipes, tricks like steaming milk without holding the jug, working in pairs as is often required in busy cafes and learn to work efficiently under pressure.
Yes! Our Barista Level 2 course offers the option of additional work experience opportunities with some of our partner cafes, allowing graduates to apply their skills in real-world café settings. If you’re interested in this please let your trainer know on the day of training.
Completing Level 2 not only enhances your barista skills but also makes you more competitive in the job market, potentially leading to higher pay and more advanced roles.
This course is ideal for individuals who have completed Level 1 and want to deepen their expertise, as well as those aiming for a more professional and efficient approach to coffee preparation.
