In 2007 the Hospitality Group was born from two enthusiastic cousins, Harry Lalidis and Peter Giannakis, prepared to establish themselves in the cafe and hospitality market. Their plan was ambitious and would test them immeasurably, in 2007 the cousins proceeded to build, staff and operate seven cafes throughout Adelaide. In 2008 two more were added to the mix, in 2009 another two, and in 1010 another was built from scratch making a grand total of twelve cafes. Much of this growth can be attributed to their passion for a high quality product and the many opportunities that availed them from this commitment to superior quality and service.
By 2009 it became blindingly apparent that training was pivotal in maintaining the highest standard of food and coffee service. After sending staff to various training providers in Adelaide and being disappointed with the training provided, Peter began running weekly barista classes for their staff members from one of their own city cafes.
The training days were great fun and the staff loved attending, so much so that they began bringing along friends and family! The training soon became a costly exercise – especially when half the attendees were not even staff – and the decision was made soon after to begin charging admission for extra students.
The classes proved to be a great sucess with staff, family and friends producing fantastic coffee and ignited the passion for espresso coffee in all who attended. Word of mouth spread, and the space was regularly filled to capacity with students, Peter and Harry capitalised on this opportunity and that year the HG Coffee School was established!
The barista training was delivered by someone who lived and breathed the cafe industry who was single minded in delivering the techniques which were the current standard in the best cafes all over Australia. The HG Coffee School was now employing competitive barista champions.
Since our days huddled behind a single coffee machine in a cafe, our training facility has moved from shared premises with the Carrick Institute to most recently our state of the art; purpose fitted facility in Regency Park.
Today the HG Coffee School puts its name on the resume and technique of each and every one of its graduates. With almost 80% of our bookings coming from referrals and recommendations we know we deliver on our promise!
